About CartStack

Since 2013 we have worked on one problem: the people who leave.

Seven out of ten carts and bookings are abandoned. Everyone in ecommerce knows the number and almost nobody does anything about it. That gap is the whole company.

We are a small team in Minneapolis that has spent more than a decade getting good at the unglamorous part of the funnel — the part after someone walks away.

The long way round

13 years of recovering abandoned carts

Ten milestones, thirteen years. Every one came from a customer asking for something we did not have yet.

Where it started

2013

1 of 10
2013 Where it started

Best Buy's first cart abandonment solution

Our cofounders built it. It worked well enough that they decided every store deserved one — and started CartStack.

2014 First customer

The cart abandonment platform launches

The first version of CartStack goes live, and the first paying customer signs up.

2017 New segment

Browse abandonment

Window shoppers become a segment of their own. Browse abandonment brings back the visitors who looked but never added anything.

2018 Channels

Recovery goes multichannel

Email does most of the work, but not all of it. SMS and push join the sequence.

2019 On-site

Exit-intent popups and on-site targeting

The first on-site tools ship — catching visitors before they leave, not just after. Retain is still a few years off.

2020 That year

We don't talk about 2020

Everyone worked from home. Everyone's abandonment rate went up. Moving on.

2021 The suite

A full revenue recovery suite

Cart, browse and checkout recovery across email, SMS, push and on-site — CartStack is no longer a single email.

2023 Retain

The full Retain toolkit

Every on-site message under one roof — exit-intent offers, Send my cart, conversion nudges and tab alerts.

2025 The app

The current version of the app

A rebuilt app: campaign builder, reporting and every product in one place.

2026 Now

Reveal, Retain and Recover

The full recovery suite — identify the visitors you could not see, hold the ones about to leave, and bring back the ones who did.

Our values

So, what drives how we run our business?

Three of them. We say them out loud in hiring, in support tickets and in the room when a call goes badly.

Treat people awesome

We put ourselves in other people's shoes. We WOW our customers by exceeding their expectations. And we do the right thing, even when it's the hard thing.

Less, but better

We know our area of expertise — converting abandoned visitors into sales — and we are fully focused on being the best in the world at this one, very important thing.

Customer profits first

Our team and technology exist to make our customers more profitable. We obsess over our customers' performance every single day. We believe in showing them amazing results that will earn their trust.

The team

You will talk to these people, not a queue

Support, strategy and engineering sit in the same room. The person who answers your email can usually change the thing you are emailing about.
