The challenge
Most of the retailer's abandonment happened before checkout. Shoppers compared options across several sessions, added to cart, then left from the cart page or a product page — long before an email was captured. The existing ESP flow only fired for shoppers who reached checkout and entered an address, which meant the majority of high-intent traffic never heard from the brand again.
What changed
Recovery from every exit
Real-time email capture meant a contact existed the moment a shopper typed, not the moment they submitted. Cart, browse and checkout abandonment each got their own sequence.
Messages built from the cart
Every email carried the exact items, images and prices left behind, sent from the retailer's own domain in their voice — with the series stopping the moment a shopper came back.
Earlier capture on-site
Exit-intent and send-my-cart prompts asked for the email earlier in the visit, growing the pool of shoppers the recovery sequence could follow up with.
